Cherwell Valley Services, M40 Junction 10

Cherwell Valley was the first service area on the M40, and it sits at one of the motorway’s busiest freight junctions. What should you know before stopping?

Where it is

The services are at Junction 10 of the M40, at Stoke Lyne near Bicester in Oxfordshire. Junction 10 is where the A43 meets the motorway, signed for Northampton and Milton Keynes. The services are off the junction roundabout, so they serve both directions and can also be reached by traffic that is not using the motorway.

Who runs it

Cherwell Valley is operated by Moto. It opened in spring 1994, giving the M40 its first service station more than three years after the motorway was completed.

Rebuilt after a fire

A fire destroyed the original main building on 15 April 2010; no one was hurt. Temporary facilities ran while it was rebuilt, and a new, substantially larger building opened on 30 June 2011. The hotel and fuel station were not affected by the fire.

Traffic around Junction 10

The Department for Transport counted 100,293 vehicles a day between Junctions 9 and 10 in 2025, including 10,708 lorries, and 88,618 between Junctions 10 and 11. Lorries make up more than one vehicle in ten between Junctions 9 and 10.
